Letter from Utilities United Against Scams Executive Director, Sheri Givens

For some time, customers have been victimized by criminals posing as utility representatives, and utility companies have responded with awareness campaigns and other measures to try to inoculate their communities. However, with the scammers employing increasingly sophisticated tactics, the industry has decided that a stalemate is unacceptable while customers continue to lose money. In 2016, approximately forty utility companies and associations across the U.S. and Canada made the decision to pull their collective efforts to amplify the reach of their collective campaigns, share data and best practices to better protect their customers and put the scammers out of business.

This synergy group will provide existing members of the Utilities United Against Scams (UUAS) collaborative a forum for in-person dialogue on current anti-scam efforts, past successes, lessons learned and future challenges. It will also serve as the planning kick-off for the third annual UUAS day in November of 2018. The synergy group welcomes representatives of companies not already engaged, but interesting in learning more about UUAS.
