Now a year into the pandemic, positive public health signs are abundant: reduced cases, fewer and shorter hospitalizations, available vaccinations, improved pharmaceutical options, and a summer forecast for herd immunity. Workers are returning to offices, businesses are being allowed to reopen, children are coming back to classrooms, houses of worship and restaurants are relaxing rigid protocols.
