Meeting Evolving Customer Requirements While Achieving Cyber Security

Chris Montoya, AVP, Information Technology, El Paso Electric Company

In the current digital economy, utility customer’s requirements are evolving. Systems are being integrated across the meter to cash, distribution automation and outage management processes. Customers are becoming active participants in the utility processes. The electric utility industry is developing a “Knowledge Customer.” This integrated model, however, is in contrast to the need to secure sensitive information and critical systems. It is important that we develop a cyber security model that secures systems and data while enabling us to meet these evolving customer requirements.
