Former US Secretary of Energy Wednesday, May 20, 2009
Former Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham will launch CS Week Conference 33 Wednesday morning with remarks to the General Session. He brings the insight of two decades at the highest levels of domestic and international policy as he discusses the challenges facing utilities in light of geopolitical challenges as well as domestic production and regulation.
Abraham served as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy from 2001-2005. He led efforts to broaden America's international energy partnerships and spearheaded hydrogen fuel cell research and clean coal technology programs. As the junior U.S. Senator from Michigan, he authored the Electronic Signature in Global and National Commerce Act, the Government Paperwork and Elimination Act, and the Anti-Cyber-Squatting Consumer Protection Act.
Abraham is a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. He founded The Abraham Group, a Washington DC based international strategic consulting firm. He is Chairman of the Board of Areva Inc., the US subsidiary of the French nuclear energy company. He also sits on the board of Occidental Petroleum.
He holds holds a juris doctorate degree from Harvard Law School.
