As
hard times continue, more and more families with low
income seek federal and private home energy assistance.
This session will review the nationwide need for energy
assistance, speak to the status of federal and charitable
programs to address the need and highlight several
innovative approaches.
George
Coling is executive director of the National Fuel
Funds Network, an association of more than 300 nonprofit,
utility and government programs that assist people with
low income to pay home energy bills. Based in Washington,
DC, Mr. Coling has worked for nonprofit organizations, or
as a consultant for them, since 1970. A graduate of the
University of Rochester, he did graduate study in
environmental health at the University of Michigan School
of Public Health.
David
Fox is executive director
of the National Low Income Energy Consortium. He
previously worked as a Washington lobbyist. He served as
executive director of the Campaign for Home Energy
Assistance. Fox spent 10 years in local media, worked for
Associated Press and a national radio network, was press
secretary for two members of Congress, and lectured on
speech and news writing for the National Republican
Congressional Committee. His BA in speech and theatre is
from the University of Northern Iowa.
