The New Prosumer
Utilities continue to look for new
energy sources to build their customer base. One utility
in Texas has approached the search for energy sources in
another way.
Instead of more of the same, Austin
Energy has built a conservation power plant, replacing a
500 MW coal plant. This municipally-owned electric
utility is now working on a second 700 MWs of savings.
They are also looking for a power plant's worth of
distributed generation and, in the process, implementing
new strategies to change their customers into
prosumers.
